Just because there is mostly Rock Music shared on here, does not mean I listen to ONLY 1 music genre or sub-genre.
Speaking of Rock Music, what I have already shared on here for Song Saturday blogs have been pretty tame. Eventually, I'll start sharing heavier music like I used to play on my radio show.
I have already shared "Nu-Metal," Industrial Metal, Dark Trance, Belgian Acid House, Hard Rock, Grunge, J-Rock, J-Pop, Goth-Punk, Pop, etc. etc.
Today I have some music videos by Enigma. Within the last 6-24 years, I am sure you have heard Enigma's songs but didn't know it. Romanian Music Composer/Producer, Michael Cretu said on his website:
"Enigma is not an artist and it’s not a group. It’s a project, an idea... The people will like it without knowing anything about it, without any information...I wanted the music to speak for itself...It is music for everybody. It’s intellectual but it has a very simple naive feeling."
If you are interested in learning more about Enigma, visit the official website. In the following link, Michael Cretu explains more about Enigma's 1990 debut album:
This "musical project" can be labeled as Worldbeat, New Age, Downtempo, Electronica, and Experimental Music.
Enigma has been featured on numerous TV and movie soundtracks, as well as used in movie trailers, over the years.
When Cretu released Enigma's debut album, MCMXC a.D in 1990, it internationally won over 57 platinum awards and reached the top of charts in 41 countries.
MCMXC a.D is the Roman numeral for the year of the debut album's release, which was in 1990.
MCMXC a.D became so popular, the producers of the Erotic Thriller, Sliver wanted Cretu to compose the entire soundtrack in 1993.
Because Michael Cretu was unable to compose the movie's soundtrack, he declined. However, he DID compose "Carly's Song."
"Carly's Song" was eventually remixed as "Age of Loneliness" on Enigma's 1993 album, The Cross of Changes.
Meanwhile, "Sadeness" was mostly used on General Hospital during the mid-90's for Sonny and Brenda's sex scenes.
"Sadeness" was renamed and is mostly known as "Sadness." "Sadeness" has a very sultry sound. The song is about "questioning" Marquis de Sade's erotic fantasies.
If you do NOT know about Marquis de Sade, he was the French libertine founder AND writer of sexual sadism. "Sadeness" is 1 of Enigma's most popular songs.
The song is still used on TV and in movies. The same applies for "Return To Innocence."
Personally, I've always thought and still believe that Enigma's "Return To Innocence" is highly overrated and overused. Not that "Return To Innocence" is a bad song, but Enigma has MUCH better songs than "Return To Innocence."
It has been featured on The Outer Limits, My So-Called Life, Cold Case, The L Word, and American Idol.
"The Eyes of Truth," on the other hand, has only been used in movie trailers for The Long Kiss Goodnight and The Matrix. That song is MUCH better than "Return To Innocence."
"The Principles of Lust" is better than "Return To Innocence" hands down. If memory serves me right, MTV supposedly banned the music video for "The Principles of Lust" because it depicted an ORGY. Oh, the horror!
When did MTV start attracting uptight nuns and prudes for viewers with all their risque music videos and TV shows?
Considering that network's rap sheet of premiering horrible soft-core porn shows dating back to the 1990's, I find this hilarious. MTV continues to air soft-porn with The Real World cast members having threesomes and open relationships.
Now that I think about it, MTV sometimes played Enigma's songs on The Real World, during the '90s! I mean, REALLY? Talk about some bullshit.
With all that being said, this Song Saturday will be an Enigma block with music videos from the "musical project's" debut album, MCMXC a.D.
In addition, "The Eyes of Truth" is from Enigma's 2nd album, The Cross of Changes.
According to Michael Cretu, he considers MCMXC a.D. to be the father and The Cross of Changes to be the mother. Anyway, I hope you are able to and continue to be open-minded by enjoying these music videos.
