Vampire Knight Needs To Be Re-dubbed: Who Would You Re-Cast?

How's it going my gumdrops? As I scrolled down the page of a sub-forum last week, a poster was griping about Yuri Lowenthal always being casted in Anime. For those, who don't know about Yuri Lowenthal, he has quite an extensive resume.

Yuri Lowenthal is a voice actor, who mostly voices Japanese animation and video games; He is mostly known for voicing Japanese characters in English dubs. I cannot deny feeling somewhat envious of Yuri's accomplishments.

He is a married man and a published author, who is fluent in French, Japanese, German, and English. Even though I never wanted to learn French, it's as if the man is really successful and has at least 1 of my dream jobs (being a published author).

Yuri Lowenthal is best known for voicing Pip Bernadotte in the Hellsing Ultimate OVA's, Suzaku Kururugi in Code Geass, Hiroki Rokujo in Tokko, the bratty, Emo character, Sasuke Uchiha from the Naruto and Boruto franchises, Gurren Lagann's Simon, Noein's Yuu, and Bleach's Keigo Asano. This is only naming a few roles.

Throughout the last decade or so, Yuri Lowenthal has voiced a plethora of characters. Even though I despise the character he voices (Sasuke Uchiha) in Naruto and Boruto, Yuri Lowenthal is able to show Sasuke's anger and resentment towards his double agent, older brother, Itachi.

Speaking of voicing characters, have you ever watched the Shojo Horror Action Anime, Vampire Knight in English?

Years before ever building It's Not All Gumdrops & Unicorns and OMG Anna! What's Going On?!, I have ALWAYS said, that Vampire Knight NEEDS a re-dub. The English dub is not exactly terrible. However, the voice acting sounds cartoonishly generic. If I could, I would GLADLY take the position of being a casting director specifically for voicing characters in English.

Many fans love to nit pick how characters are voiced in Japanese animation (Anime). There are fans, who will only watch Anime in English subtitles because they HATE the English dubs and vice versa. Depending on a series, I will watch it in English subtitles, dubbed, or both in English and Japanese. I am not that nit picky about how I watch Anime.

Lately, I have been watching Anime more in English dub because I don't feel like reading English subtitles, while characters speak in Japanese. Also, sometimes the characters and the scripts sound better dubbed in English. It really all depends on the situation at the time.

Those who have been my readers and subscribers on It's Not All Gumdrops & Unicorns and have been following me on Google Plus for the last 2-3 years, may recall, that I published a Cartoon Sunday blog about Shojo Anime, that need re-dubs.

Cartoon Sunday: Shojo Anime That Need Re-Dubs

More than anything, I would LOVE to see Vampire Knight be re-dubbed. The English dub sounds incredibly generic for the main characters.

The voice actors for Kaname Kuran, Yuki Cross, and Zero Kiryu (which are the 3 main characters in the series) are unconvincing as characters and lack charisma.

I really wished, that Crispin Freeman was casted as Kaname, Johnny Yong Bosch or Yuri Lowenthal as Zero, and Laura Bailey as Yuki in Vampire Knight. Crispin Freeman has probably voiced just as many characters, if not more than Yuri Lowenthal.

In the Hellsing franchise, Crispin Freeman voices the vampire Alucard. Considering all the characters he has voiced over the last 2 decades or so, Crispin has the charisma to play dark yet seductive roles. He would be best suited to voice Vampire Knight's Kaname Kuran.

In the Naruto franchise, Crispin Freeman voices Itachi Uchiha. Itachi is Sasuke's older brother. The characters used to have a brotherly love for each other.

That was until Itachi convinced Sasuke into believing, that he massacred their ENTIRE clan. After torturing Sasuke with his Mangekyou Sharingan Eyes by Itachi showing him images of how he killed their parents and other family members, Sasuke hated him since that day.

Naruto: Sasuke Vs Itachi {English Dub} (2005)

Already having knowledge about both those characters and who voiced them, I believe Crispin and Yuri would be a perfect match for Kaname Kuran and Zero Kiryu in Vampire Knight. If you have ever watched Vampire Knight, you already know that Zero is a very bitter and resentful Level E Vampire.

Zero is jealous of Yuki's feelings for Kaname. Zero also hates the fact, that Shizuka killed his parents and turned he and his evil twin into vampires. This is in addition to his hatred for vampires and watching the way Day Class Students lust after the Vampire Night Class. All of this really infuriates Zero.

Vampire Knight: Zero Vs Inchiru {English Dub} (2008)

If Yuri Lowenthal could not be re-casted as the role of Zero Kiryu, my next choice would be Bleach's Johnny Yong Bosch. In Bleach, Johnny plays the protagonist, Ichigo Kurosaki (another angry character) and in Code Geass, he plays Lelouch. I find it fascinating, that Johnny and Yuri played in both Bleach and Code Geass together.

Both voice actors have played melodramatic, "anti-hero," and villainous roles with a God Complex. Therefore, I believe either Johnny, or Yuri could play Zero and his evil twin brother, Ichiru in Vampire Knight.

I really would've loved for Laura Bailey to have been casted as Yuki Cross in Vampire Knight, but she was casted as the character, Maria. Since Laura has voiced multiple characters on several shows in the past, she could've and should've (in my opinion) voiced Yuki as well as Maria.

Now, who could voice Hanabusa Aidou?

Recently, I discovered that Bryce Papenbrook voiced Hanabusa Aidou. He is best known for voicing the protagonist, Rin Okumura in Blue Exorcist and JoJo's Bizare Adventure: Battle Tendency's Caesar Zeppeli.

Discovering that Papenbrook not only voiced Hanabusa Aidou or "Idol Senpai," but also has ton of fans, who HATE his voice acting, was something I would've never expected!

I don't exactly hate Bryce Papenbrook as a voice actor. I enjoyed listening to him voice Rin and Caesar. Although, his voice did not suit Aidou. After learning that Bryce Papenbrook voiced Hanabusa Aidou, I feel disappointed. He did not exactly fit the role.

Vampire Knight: Kaname Kuran & Hanabusa Aidou {English Dub} (2008)

Bryce Papenbrook voicing Hanabusa Aidou made the character seem bratty. At least, that was my impression after watching the English dub of Vampire Knight.

Granted, Aidou is a trust fund brat for a vampire but Papenbrook voicing Aidou made the character seem really bratty and juvenile.

Who could've been a better voice actor for Hanabusa Aidou?

How about Brad Swaile? Are there any objections to Brad Swaile voicing Hanabusa Aidou, if Vampire Knight was ever re-dubbed?

If you have no idea who Brad Swaile is, he is best known for voicing Death Note's Light Yagami and Rock from Black Lagoon. Swaile has the ability to play evil, cunning, and submissive roles.

On the other hand, I am really liking Brandon McInnis as Finral Roulacase in Black Clover. Finral is that flirtatious Don Juan, who gets his face slapped. Aidou has that in common with Finral. Aidou loves flirting with the Day Class Students and Kaname loves bitch slapping him, whenever he attacks Yuki.

Hanabusa is a character, that knows when to be evil, antagonistic, flirtatious, and charming, and knows when to be submissive to Kaname Kuran. Brad Swaile or Brandon McInnis would be my choices for voicing "Idol Senpai" in Vampire Knight.

Now, who could voice Akatsuki Kain?

Even though Akatsuki is in love with Ruka, he is more of an apathetic vampire. Either Devil May Cry's Reuben Langdon, or JoJo's Bizarre Adventure's Matthew Mercer could voice Akatsuki Kain.

So, what are your thoughts? If Vampire Knight was ever re-dubbed, would you choose some other voice actors, that were not mentioned in today's blog?

Thank you my gumdrops! Don't forget to like, subscribe, share, +1 on Google Plus, and leave your feedback in the comments section below!

Cartoon Sunday: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Stardust Crusaders & Stands

How's it going lurkers? I must say, I am definitely surprised as well as pleased with the fact, that MORE of you enjoyed yesterday's Song Saturday blog.

Yes' song, "Roundabout" was something a little different from their usual, "Owner Of A Lonely Heart."

As I mentioned at least twice, Yes' 1983 hit single, "Owner Of A Lonely Heart" was used as a sample in Season 1: Part 2 of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Battle Tendency.

After publishing yesterday's Song Saturday blog and sharing it around social media, I saw a Viz Media promotional video by the voice actor, Patrick Seitz.

Throughout the last 10 years or so, Seitz has voiced many characters for Shonen, Seinen, Josei, and Shojo age and gender demographics.

Patrick Seitz is best known for voicing Luke Valentine from the Hellsing franchise, Bleach's Isshin Kurosaki and Kenpachi Zaraki, various characters from the Naruto franchise, Blue Exorcist's Igor Neuhaus, and most importantly... DIO Brando from the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure franchise.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Phantom Blood "It Was I, DIO!" (2012)

If you would like to learn about other characters he has voiced, click HERE.

As I was saying, a Viz Media promo appeared in my Facebook news feed, which featured Patrick Seitz. He was promoting JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders for Adult Swim's Toonami block.

Viz Media: Patrick Seitz Promotes JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders For Adult Swim's Toonami Block (2017)

Watching this Viz promo for Stardust Crusaders made me giggle. It was clever. I love the way Patrick Seitz held that rose in his mouth, while delivering a witty promo. Seitz has voiced villains in the past, but voicing the villain, Dio Brando makes me snicker sadistically.

The supervillain, Dio Brando is the namesake of the late Metal frontman, Ronnie James Dio.

During the preceding promotional video, Seitz referenced to Dio Brando's Stand, The World. This particular season of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure focuses on Stands.

Stardust Crusaders begins with Joseph Joestar's grandson/protagonist of this season, Jotaro Kujo purposely staying behind bars in jail because he claims to be possessed by a supposed evil spirit.

Eventually, Joseph and his fortune telling friend, Mohammed Avdol strategize how to coax Jotaro into leaving his jail cell.

After Joseph, Mohammed, Jotaro, and his mother, Holly leave the jail, they have a meeting at a coffee & wine shop about their ancestry. This also includes revealing more shocking news about Dio Brando's association with The Joestar Clan.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders "Dio Brando's Revival" [English Subtitles] (2014)

So, what it is a Stand?

A Stand is a unique, supernatural personification of life energy, which is attached to the body. It can ALSO represent the manifestations of a human or a creature's innate "fighting spirit." To an extent, Stands embody the psyche.

At the start of this season of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, it was already revealed that Joseph Joestar is a Stand User. He snaps screenshots and smashes his cameras as evidence to support his claims about having a Stand.

Who and what are Stand Users?

Stand Users are humans AND creatures with Stands, which can be used for various purposes.

Obtaining a Stand is currently unspecified. However, it has been hinted that having a Stand can be connected to bloodlines, rigorious spiritual and/or "Ripple Training" and/or a very STRONG will power, desire, and passion.

Since this season of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure focuses on Stands, here is a list of Stand Users with their Stands.

Cartoon Sunday: Pitchfork TV's A Brief History Of Emo

How's it going lurkers? Today I wanted to switch things up a little for Cartoon Sunday. Every so often, I like discussing a variety of different topics, including the different types of animation not affiliated with Adult Swim's programming.

Next month, I will be sharing another cartoon that aired on MTV shortly before the network canceled it. Some, if not most of you already noticed that I constantly talk about Adult Swim.

As I have said many times in the past, I was watching Liquid Television Animation on MTV, during the 1990's. This was YEARS before Cartoon Network launched the original Toonami block and before Adult Swim was ever launched.

More recently, younger Millennials and Gen Z have been discovering older cartoons that used to air on MTV, during the '90s. Here's the real kicker, Adult Swim's latest animated promos for the network are only imitations of some of MTV's promos from the 1990's (circa 1992 and after to be more exact).

MTV Promo: "Ding-Dong" (1992)

This promo for MTV is only 1 example. I believe that Adult Swim is currently trying to copy what MTV started doing more than 2 decades or so ago with Adult Swim's latest promos.

Don't believe me?

Watch Adult Swim during the commercial breaks, especially on the weekends.

It is an absolute disgrace to see how so many networks and the people running them have LOST  their integrity.

Rather than showing quality entertainment, local, cable, and satellite channels intentionally launch more low-brow Reality TV shows to pander, glorify, and normalize self-centered, attention-seeking, and highly entitled men, women, children, and pregnant teenage girls.

Speaking of entertainment, you may recall that earlier this year, I published several blogs about the Goth Sub-culture.

In fact, I published a Cartoon Sunday blog about Pitchfork TV giving a brief yet comedic history lesson about the Goth Sub-culture. In case you missed this blog, click on the following link.

Cartoon Sunday: Pitchfork TV's History Lesson About The Goth Sub-culture (2017)

For the last 10-15 years, I've had some people, including an ignorant and estranged, affluenza man-child for a so-called college "friend," label me as being Emo. By no means am I Emo and have never dressed Emo.

South Park Season 17: Episode 4 "The Difference Between Goths & Emos" (2013)

Regardless of the clothes I wear, the music I listen to, and TV shows and movies I watch, I have been Goth, since childhood.

Friends and classmates from 6th to 12th grade would not know it because my physical appearance was NOT  Goth, at the time. However, I did have some Goth friends in high school and my interests were always dark and morbid.

Decades later, I am STILL Goth.

Despite the negative depictions of Goths in the media, every Goth is NOT  a horrible person. Also, Goth Fashion does not always translate well, when you are in the workforce.

Depending on the company's dress code, you have to wear "normal" clothing, in order to assimilate. If you work at a company that allows you to wear whatever you want, OR happen to be self-employed, you can Goth it up as much as you want. Most companies in the workforce will NOT  allow it.

As I was saying about Emos, they are NOT  the same as Goths. The gif above is of the character, Sasuke Uchiha from the Naruto franchise.

For the last 16 years, there have been plenty of gifs and memes about Sasuke because this character looks and acts like the stereotypical Emo brat and HURTS.

I'm really surprised there hasn't been a meme with "Woe is Sasuke" captioned on it. Sasuke Uchiha memes captioned with "I'm so Emo" have been floating around the Internet, since 2005.

Emos normally listen to shitty Pop-Punk bands and "Crybaby" Rock Music whereas some Emos may physically appear as Goth because of their make-up, hair, and some clothing.

When you see someone with dyed black hair, an asymmetrical and/or spiky haircut, swept over bangs like Sasuke's, and possibly wearing horned-rimmed glasses, THAT person is without a doubt an Emo.

During my last 2 years at Carthage, an estranged guy friend continuously mocked and mislabeled me as being Emo-Goth. That's excluding his need to disguise his snide remarks and cheap shots as jokes.

BTW: This was coming from an affluenza man-child, who gave a speech about his ACTION FIGURES in Speech Class! A female friend's roommate told us about it in their dorm room, which is the only reason why I know about it. Little does the affluenza man-child know that the joke's really on him.

Because such a so-called "friend" had his tendency to mock me and disguise his cheap shots as jokes, I distanced myself from him, after graduating. That's not including he and his homely-looking girlfriend at the time causing division among us and mutual friends. Those were some other great reasons for dumping him. Welp, that's enough about me being intentionally mislabeled as an Emo-Goth.

When you watch Pitchfork TV's informative yet humorous cartoon about the history of Emo, you should realize that Emo is different from Goth Rock and the Goth Sub-culture in general.

You should especially notice that I have NEVER featured ANY  Emo Rock bands in previous Song Saturday blogs.

Listening to songs by A.F.I. is MY ONLY EXCEPTION to Emo. Otherwise, like most people, I HATE Emo Rock Music! Anyway, here is Pitchfork TV's "A Brief History Of Emo" for Cartoon Sunday.

Cartoon Sunday: Watch Mojo's Anime Villains Countdown

How's it going lurkers? Recently, I learned that Toonami is replacing JoJo's Bizarre Adventure with Attack On Titan on April 22nd. Next Saturday night, Toonami will air the final 2 episodes of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Season 1. This means Tokyo Ghoul will be preempted.

As soon as Attack On Titan's 2nd season ends, I really hope Toonami returns to premiering JoJo's Bizarre Adventure's 2nd season, Stardust Crusaders.

I must admit that I am automatically biased to watch JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders. It gives me a reason to listen to The Bangles' "Walk Like An Egyptian" as the Anime's ending theme song. Talk about '80s nostalgia.

Speaking of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Dio Brando made Watch Mojo's Top Anime Villains. Apparently, Watch Mojo loves doing Top Anime Villains countdowns.

There are at least 4 of these countdowns made about Anime villains. Some countdowns are repeats for each type of villain.

So far, Dio Brando from the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure franchise made Watch Mojo's Top Anime Villains at least twice.

Meanwhile, characters such as Lord Orichimaru from Naruto, Light Yagami from Death Note, and other Shonen Anime characters made the Top Anime Villains countdowns several times or more.

Judging by the looks of it, Watch Mojo tends to favor Death Note's Light Yagami as a major villain.

Even though Light was a villain, Dio Brando should've made the countdowns just as much, if not MORE than him.

Dio is as deplorable of a character as Light was because Dio was evil from the very beginning of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Light on the other hand, became evil AFTER obtaining notebooks from Shinigami.

Light Yagami originally had good intentions in the beginning but gradually developed a serious God Complex and let the power of executing criminals overtake him.

After watching these 4 Watch Mojo Top Anime Villains countdowns for today's Cartoon Sunday, you be the judge.

2) Watch Mojo: Top 10 Smartest Anime Villains (2015)

Naruto Shippuden Will FINALLY Be Aired On Adult Swim

How's it going lurkers? On Wednesday night, a cyber friend of mine sent me a link to Toonami's Tumblr page. According to Adult Swim's Toonami, the block will FINALLY premiere Naruto Shippuden, literally 5 years later.
Well, it's about damn time! Honestly, Cartoon Network should've premiered every Naruto episode before canceling the Anime and the Toonami block. It only had a few more episodes to air, before Naruto's 2-year time skip.

Cartoon Network didn't want to buy the rights to Naruto Shippuden YET  Disney XD bought the series, which was dumb. Naruto Shippuden never belonged on Disney XD.

Considering that Naruto was already violent, what made those in charge of Disney think Naruto Shippuden would be any LESS violent?

In Shippuden, the characters are teenagers, the arcs have more violence and death, along with more mature writing than the original series. Disney XD censored Naruto Shippuden more than Cartoon Network censored Naruto.

To make matters worse, Disney XD put Shippuden on hiatus for the last 3 years. It would've been more logical for Adult Swim to have bought Naruto Shippuden years ago rather than Disney XD.

Adult Swim would've premiered the series uncensored. Because Adult Swim's Toonami didn't buy Naruto Shippuden, when they network HAD the chance, American viewers were subjected to an extremely censored version of a more mature Naruto.

Furthermore, the viewers had to wait even longer for Adult Swim to acquire the rights to Naruto Shippuden. Well, I suppose it's better late than never. Right?

Even though Adult Swim's Toonami finally bought Naruto Shippuden, I'm only left with watching 1 hour of the network's so-called "Toonami" block. Currently, I'm only watching Bleach.

When Naruto Shippuden premieres next year on the block, I will watch it. The other Shounen Action Anime I can do without.

I recently said to somebody on FutureGohanSSJ2's Facebook page, that Adult Swim is limiting their viewership by only airing Shonen Action Anime. This particular genre is mostly about male teenage superheroes and anti-heroes.

Adult Swim needs to air more Seinen and Josei Anime for men and women. It's called "Adult Swim" for a reason yet Toonami only wants to pander to the male teenage demographic regarding Anime.

Japanese animation is so broad, that it has something for every age, genre, sub-genre, gender, sexual orientation, etc.

Why should Adult Swim limit their Anime viewers to only Shonen Action Anime?

The female demographic loves watching Anime. Not all of Toonami's male viewers like the currently premiering shows.

It seems like Adult Swim's Toonami is purposely trying to alienate most their viewers, whether they are Anime fans or not.

Before Xanga 1.0 shut down, I published several blogs on Xanga about Cartoon Network and Adult Swim's sexism, along with their terrible acquisitions, over the last 5 years.

Not only did I discuss their failbag programming on Xanga, but also made my ideal programming schedule for Adult Swim on Saturday nights. I still feel the network should remove the "Toonami" label and call it "Anime Night" on Saturdays.

If Saturday night became Anime Night, Anime would NOT  be limited to only Shonen Action Anime. Toonami could premiere Shonen, Shojo, Seinen, and Josei Anime, that are Comedy, Action, Romance, and Horror genres.

Here is the previous schedule I created earlier this spring for Adult Swim's Saturday night schedule. In addition, I shared some of their Anime trailers:
