Vampire Knight Needs To Be Re-dubbed: Who Would You Re-Cast?

How's it going my gumdrops? As I scrolled down the page of a sub-forum last week, a poster was griping about Yuri Lowenthal always being casted in Anime. For those, who don't know about Yuri Lowenthal, he has quite an extensive resume.

Yuri Lowenthal is a voice actor, who mostly voices Japanese animation and video games; He is mostly known for voicing Japanese characters in English dubs. I cannot deny feeling somewhat envious of Yuri's accomplishments.

He is a married man and a published author, who is fluent in French, Japanese, German, and English. Even though I never wanted to learn French, it's as if the man is really successful and has at least 1 of my dream jobs (being a published author).

Yuri Lowenthal is best known for voicing Pip Bernadotte in the Hellsing Ultimate OVA's, Suzaku Kururugi in Code Geass, Hiroki Rokujo in Tokko, the bratty, Emo character, Sasuke Uchiha from the Naruto and Boruto franchises, Gurren Lagann's Simon, Noein's Yuu, and Bleach's Keigo Asano. This is only naming a few roles.

Throughout the last decade or so, Yuri Lowenthal has voiced a plethora of characters. Even though I despise the character he voices (Sasuke Uchiha) in Naruto and Boruto, Yuri Lowenthal is able to show Sasuke's anger and resentment towards his double agent, older brother, Itachi.

Speaking of voicing characters, have you ever watched the Shojo Horror Action Anime, Vampire Knight in English?

Years before ever building It's Not All Gumdrops & Unicorns and OMG Anna! What's Going On?!, I have ALWAYS said, that Vampire Knight NEEDS a re-dub. The English dub is not exactly terrible. However, the voice acting sounds cartoonishly generic. If I could, I would GLADLY take the position of being a casting director specifically for voicing characters in English.

Many fans love to nit pick how characters are voiced in Japanese animation (Anime). There are fans, who will only watch Anime in English subtitles because they HATE the English dubs and vice versa. Depending on a series, I will watch it in English subtitles, dubbed, or both in English and Japanese. I am not that nit picky about how I watch Anime.

Lately, I have been watching Anime more in English dub because I don't feel like reading English subtitles, while characters speak in Japanese. Also, sometimes the characters and the scripts sound better dubbed in English. It really all depends on the situation at the time.

Those who have been my readers and subscribers on It's Not All Gumdrops & Unicorns and have been following me on Google Plus for the last 2-3 years, may recall, that I published a Cartoon Sunday blog about Shojo Anime, that need re-dubs.

Cartoon Sunday: Shojo Anime That Need Re-Dubs

More than anything, I would LOVE to see Vampire Knight be re-dubbed. The English dub sounds incredibly generic for the main characters.

The voice actors for Kaname Kuran, Yuki Cross, and Zero Kiryu (which are the 3 main characters in the series) are unconvincing as characters and lack charisma.

I really wished, that Crispin Freeman was casted as Kaname, Johnny Yong Bosch or Yuri Lowenthal as Zero, and Laura Bailey as Yuki in Vampire Knight. Crispin Freeman has probably voiced just as many characters, if not more than Yuri Lowenthal.

In the Hellsing franchise, Crispin Freeman voices the vampire Alucard. Considering all the characters he has voiced over the last 2 decades or so, Crispin has the charisma to play dark yet seductive roles. He would be best suited to voice Vampire Knight's Kaname Kuran.

In the Naruto franchise, Crispin Freeman voices Itachi Uchiha. Itachi is Sasuke's older brother. The characters used to have a brotherly love for each other.

That was until Itachi convinced Sasuke into believing, that he massacred their ENTIRE clan. After torturing Sasuke with his Mangekyou Sharingan Eyes by Itachi showing him images of how he killed their parents and other family members, Sasuke hated him since that day.

Naruto: Sasuke Vs Itachi {English Dub} (2005)

Already having knowledge about both those characters and who voiced them, I believe Crispin and Yuri would be a perfect match for Kaname Kuran and Zero Kiryu in Vampire Knight. If you have ever watched Vampire Knight, you already know that Zero is a very bitter and resentful Level E Vampire.

Zero is jealous of Yuki's feelings for Kaname. Zero also hates the fact, that Shizuka killed his parents and turned he and his evil twin into vampires. This is in addition to his hatred for vampires and watching the way Day Class Students lust after the Vampire Night Class. All of this really infuriates Zero.

Vampire Knight: Zero Vs Inchiru {English Dub} (2008)

If Yuri Lowenthal could not be re-casted as the role of Zero Kiryu, my next choice would be Bleach's Johnny Yong Bosch. In Bleach, Johnny plays the protagonist, Ichigo Kurosaki (another angry character) and in Code Geass, he plays Lelouch. I find it fascinating, that Johnny and Yuri played in both Bleach and Code Geass together.

Both voice actors have played melodramatic, "anti-hero," and villainous roles with a God Complex. Therefore, I believe either Johnny, or Yuri could play Zero and his evil twin brother, Ichiru in Vampire Knight.

I really would've loved for Laura Bailey to have been casted as Yuki Cross in Vampire Knight, but she was casted as the character, Maria. Since Laura has voiced multiple characters on several shows in the past, she could've and should've (in my opinion) voiced Yuki as well as Maria.

Now, who could voice Hanabusa Aidou?

Recently, I discovered that Bryce Papenbrook voiced Hanabusa Aidou. He is best known for voicing the protagonist, Rin Okumura in Blue Exorcist and JoJo's Bizare Adventure: Battle Tendency's Caesar Zeppeli.

Discovering that Papenbrook not only voiced Hanabusa Aidou or "Idol Senpai," but also has ton of fans, who HATE his voice acting, was something I would've never expected!

I don't exactly hate Bryce Papenbrook as a voice actor. I enjoyed listening to him voice Rin and Caesar. Although, his voice did not suit Aidou. After learning that Bryce Papenbrook voiced Hanabusa Aidou, I feel disappointed. He did not exactly fit the role.

Vampire Knight: Kaname Kuran & Hanabusa Aidou {English Dub} (2008)

Bryce Papenbrook voicing Hanabusa Aidou made the character seem bratty. At least, that was my impression after watching the English dub of Vampire Knight.

Granted, Aidou is a trust fund brat for a vampire but Papenbrook voicing Aidou made the character seem really bratty and juvenile.

Who could've been a better voice actor for Hanabusa Aidou?

How about Brad Swaile? Are there any objections to Brad Swaile voicing Hanabusa Aidou, if Vampire Knight was ever re-dubbed?

If you have no idea who Brad Swaile is, he is best known for voicing Death Note's Light Yagami and Rock from Black Lagoon. Swaile has the ability to play evil, cunning, and submissive roles.

On the other hand, I am really liking Brandon McInnis as Finral Roulacase in Black Clover. Finral is that flirtatious Don Juan, who gets his face slapped. Aidou has that in common with Finral. Aidou loves flirting with the Day Class Students and Kaname loves bitch slapping him, whenever he attacks Yuki.

Hanabusa is a character, that knows when to be evil, antagonistic, flirtatious, and charming, and knows when to be submissive to Kaname Kuran. Brad Swaile or Brandon McInnis would be my choices for voicing "Idol Senpai" in Vampire Knight.

Now, who could voice Akatsuki Kain?

Even though Akatsuki is in love with Ruka, he is more of an apathetic vampire. Either Devil May Cry's Reuben Langdon, or JoJo's Bizarre Adventure's Matthew Mercer could voice Akatsuki Kain.

So, what are your thoughts? If Vampire Knight was ever re-dubbed, would you choose some other voice actors, that were not mentioned in today's blog?

Cartoon Sunday: Horror References In JoJo's Bizarre Adventure And The Roots Of Dio's Wickedness

How's it going lurkers? So, did you enjoy the ominous tones of Hayato Matsuo's compositions for Song Saturday? I enjoyed "Giwaku," which is "Suspicion" in Japanese. When it comes to horror, it definitely gave me creepy vibes.

After listening to "Suspicion," I imagined JoJo's Bizarre Adventure's super villain, DIO, Phantom Of The Opera, and ABC's 1966 Gothic Horror Soap Opera, Dark Shadows.

I don't know much about reading or playing musical instruments. Therefore, I won't pretend to know what exact notes were played in the preceding music scores

You see, I got the short end of the stick; Everyone in my immediate family can play at least 1 musical instrument, whereas I only sang in choir for graduation requirements, during my youth

Anyway, those low piano notes for Hayato Matsuo's "Suspicion" were as bone-chilling as watching Classic Horror Movie trailers from 3-4 decades ago.
During Matsuo's score, I could actually feel my blood running cold. This is coming from someone, who is a mostly desensitized Horror fan.

Speaking of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure franchise and the Horror genre, I recently questioned some fans about the continuation of Stardust Crusaders.

Those, who have read my blogs and have been subscribed to me over the last 5 years, should recall the 3 Cartoon Sunday blogs I published, last year.

In the following blogs, I explained about the music references featured in Phantom Blood, Battle Tendency, and Stardust Crusaders.

Cartoon Sunday: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Phantom Blood + Battle Tendency Music References

Cartoon Sunday: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Recap With Stardust Crusaders Music References

Cartoon Sunday: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Stardust Crusaders + Stands

According to some JoJo's Bizarre Adventure fans from AnimeNation, Hirohiko Araki was influenced by Bram Stoker's Dracula, while creating Phantom Blood. There is horror throughout this franchise. However, there is supposed to be more horror in the "Battle In Egypt" Arc for Stardust Crusaders.

Last year, Stardust Crusaders premiered on Adult Swim's Toonami block. Even though there is horror throughout the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure franchise, catching all the horror references can be difficult.

There are so many music references, that they eclipse the horror references. Over the last several months or so, I managed to notice a few Stephen King references.

For example, Stardust Crusaders places a major emphasis on stands and stand users. Horror novelist, Stephen King published a Post-Apocalyptic Horror Fantasy novel titled, The Stand in 1978.

By 1994, ABC broadcasted the miniseries of the same name for viewers.

Jotaro's last name is most likely another King reference. Have you noticed, that Jotaro's last name is "Kujo"?

Because the character is Japanese, his last name is bound to be spelled differently in Japanese than the rabid dog's name in Stephen King's Psychological Horror novel, Cujo.

Also, did you happen to notice the red Plymouth Fury? You know that red, possessed car? In Stardust Crusaders, it is known as The Wheel Of Fortune Stand. That same stand somewhat resembles the red car in Stephen King's Christine.

Meanwhile, the stand, Yellow Temperance resembles The Blob from the 1958 Sci-Fi Horror film.

A few episodes before the "Battle In Egypt" Arc, a baby with fangs known as Mannish Boy, uses his stand, Death 13. Death 13 appears in Kakyoin and Polnareff's dreams.

Much like Freddy Krueger from Wes Craven's 1984 Slasher Horror film, A Nightmare On Elm Street, Mannish Boy tries killing them in the dreamworld.

With all this talk about horror, let's NOT  forget about the super villain Dio Brando, who is now known as simply "DIO.

If you look back at JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Phantom Blood, it was already shown from the very beginning how incredibly evil and cunning Dio Brando was as a character.

Some may justify, that it was all because his father, Dario Brando, was an abusive drunk, who forced Dio into becoming a lying, power hungry, con artist.

It took for Dio to commit patricide (basically kill his own father), Dario to be free of him by poisoning Dario to death. Dio used that same poison to kill Jonathan Joestar's father, George.

Since the time Dio Brando poisoned his own father, he was overtaken by that ancient, South American stone mask.

Once blood flew on it, during Dio's soap opera brawl with Jonathan, the stone mask was activated. The ancient South American stone mask transforms the person, who wears it into a vampire

After Dio Brando obtained the stone mask, he became not only a lying, power hungry serial killer, but also a man-whoring vampire.

With the resurgence of Dio in Stardust Crusaders, it is only fitting to return to the roots of his wickedness.

For today's Cartoon Sunday, lets take a look back at the root's of Dio Brando's wickedness in Phantom Blood.

Song Saturday: Hayato Matsuo's JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Scores

How's it going lurkers? Are you getting pumped for tonight? I know I am; I can't wait!

Since last summer, I have wondered, if Adult Swim's Toonami block would premiere the "Battle In Egypt" Arc shortly after the first 24 episodes of Stardust Crusaders, or if the series would go on hiatus for more dubbing.

As of last Saturday's Toonami Promo, it appears that Toonami will be premiering the "Battle In Egypt" Arc TONIGHT.

[Toonami Promo] JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders "Battle in Egypt" Arc (2018)
You have no idea how happy and relieved I am, right now. This means we as viewers will not have to endure any speed bumps.

When saying "speed bumps," I mean interrupting the continuation of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders only to be preempted for another 1/2 year.

Basically, that is like the local news interrupting already scheduled programming for supposed "late breaking news." Throughout this Seinen Supernatural Horror Action Anime, there have been horror and horror references in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.

I was recently informed, that Parts 3 (Stardust Crusaders) and 4 (Diamond Is Unbreakable) have more horror and horror references in them.

According to what I have read and heard from other JoJo's Bizarre Adventure fans, there is more horror in Stardust Crusaders. This is probably due to the resurgence of the sinister Dio Brando.

Dio Brando is that super villain in a series, that readers and viewers LOVE to hate. You wish he would die. If he does die, it seems too good to be true. Dio is just THAT  kind of an evil character.

Dio Brando is such a sinister character, I will even go as far as saying, that if Dio was ever someone on a forum, he would be the worst kind of troll online.

Imagine a troll, that runs cons, lies, backstabs, smears online reputations, violates posters and their privacy, sends harassing e-mail messages, sends moles and flunkies to cyber stalk, profile, slander, witch hunt, and gossip about innocent posters, spams the forum with dozens of malicious call out threads about certain posters, and turns an entire community against those posters.

Not that the fictional super villain ever committed such atrocities listed above, but imagine if he really DID commit such cyber crimes as a troll.

The super villain, Dio Brando is a highly resentful, narcissistic sociopath and classist with a great sense of entitlement, huge chips on his shoulders, and suffers from Little Dick Syndrome.

When I say, "Little Dick Syndrome," I mean abuse of power.

Dio is a very powerful villain from the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure franchise and revels in abusing his power. Believe it or not, there are people as sinister and as deplorable as JoJo's Bizarre Adventure's Dio Brando, that really exist. Dio Brando, who is now known as "DIO," is back for the "Battle In Egypt" Arc.

Whenever JoJo's Bizarre Adventure's music changes to an ominous score during scenes, there is usually a great chance that DIO is coming. He is no longer a human and hasn't been for centuries. This super villain is not only a serial killer, but also a VAMPIRE.

Mangaka, Hirohiko Araki was influenced by Bram Stoker's Dracula, when creating JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Phantom Blood.

Dio Brando seeks to destroy the Joestar Clan. His vendetta with Jonathan Joestar dates back to 1880 from England.

Being extremely opportunistic, cunning, and power hungry have to be Dio Brando's WORST  flaws. As a viewer of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure franchise, I believe Dio's extreme lust for power is his worst flaw.

To most people, money equals power. More than anything, Dio Brando always resented Jonathan Joestar for his wealthy status and has spent over a century destroying people's lives for power, including Jonathan's.

Before the late 1930's, Dio Brando killed Jonathan Joestar. Then, Dio took over his body. With this current season airing on Adult Swim's Toonami block, the characters of Stardust Crusaders are in Egypt, during the late 1980's. They are trying to save Jotaru Kujo's sick mother, Holly.

With the resurgence of the super villain, DIO, we can expect to hear more ominous music between scenes. Hayato Matsuo composed the music for the first 9 episodes of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Phantom Blood.

As said earlier, whenever the songs have ominous tones during certain scenes, viewers can expect for Dio Brando to make an appearance. Here are 3 creepy scores by composer, Hayato Matsuo, to set the ominous tones of Dio Brando's arrival for today's Song Saturday.

1) Hayato Matsuo "Yami No Fuchi Yori" {"From The Edge Of Darkness} JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Phantom Blood Anime Score (2012)
2) Hayato Matsuo "Himeru Omoi" {"Be Sore"} JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Phantom Blood Anime Score (2012)

3) Hayato Matsuo "Giwaku" {"Suspicion"} JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Phantom Blood Anime Score (2012)

Being Scared Awake: A Sadistic Child's Play Prank On Valentine's Day

How's it going my gumdrops? It is that time of the year again, when you are surrounded by cute stuffed animals, greetings cards, red roses, succulent chocolate candy, shades of pink and red, proud girlfriends, fiancees, and wives broadcasting to EVERYONE on and offline about how much their MEN spoil them (You know the braggarts, who love to show and tell everything they got like we are back in 1st grade?), etc.

Yes, I know that feeling well, if not a little TOO WELL. If you think your Valentine's Day sucks, you can take comfort in knowing that I am supposed to be getting tortured this afternoon for mine.

When I say "tortured," I mean getting another wisdom tooth removed on Valentine's Day OF ALL DAYS! Oh joy, oh joy. Even if I had someone "special" to celebrate this holiday with, I still would not be able to enjoy it. On Valentine's Day, I get to relive being tortured like I am in a Saw movie. Who doesn't love the drilling, cracking, cranking, sawing, screaming, stabbing, bleeding, tapping out, sobbing, and STARVING on Valentine's Day?

So, are you enjoying today yet? Have you ever been scared awake on Valentine's Day? Regardless if you are single or in a relationship, this is a prank that Horror fans like myself can laugh at on Valentine's Day.

When I originally watched this prank on YouTube last fall, I was highly tempted to share it for Halloween. Then, I changed my mind. Because this Valentine's Day Prank was and still is funny from 2 years ago, I thought I would share it today.

As a Valentine's Day Prank, Bridgette sadistically scares awake her love, Michael with a custom made Chucky Doll, that talks.

Did you have yourself a good laugh today? I know I did. Happy Valentine's Day! Hopefully, yours goes better than mine!

Cartoon Sunday: David Romero's Midnight Snack

How's it going my gumdrops? Before visiting OMG, Anna! What's Going On?!, you should NOT  let the disclaimer scare you. Because my content is not exactly "child-friendly," I use the disclaimer mostly for that reason.

I don't want or need someone, who is hypersensitive and/easily "offended" by the content I share, to be making a HUGE mountain out of a molehill on here OR on It's Not All Gumdrops & Unicorns. This especially applies to those obnoxious, political and religious zealots and helicopter parents.

So far, it appears that more of you like my blogs better on Blogger than on Webs, which is always a positive. I like it better on here, too. Meanwhile, there are at least a few of you, who prefer my blogs on Webs than on Blogger.

If it weren't for the fact that, Webs has too many glitches and has no way for me to transfer all my content to Blogger, I would shut it down. I still have to do more experimenting with Blogger's features. Like I already said, It's Not All Gumdrops & Unicorns will remain live.

On another note, it appears that my predictions were right! Last October on It's Not All Gumdrops & Unicorns, it was already anticipated by some of us Tokyo Ghoul fans, that the Seinen Horror Action Anime would get a 3rd season.

Cartoon Sunday: Tokyo Ghoul A Rare Treat [The Handkerchief Scene]

Season 2 felt very incomplete. Sure enough, we were right about Tokyo Ghoul getting another season.

On October 8, 2017, I published a Cartoon Sunday blog. In that same blog, I predicted, that Tokyo Ghoul:re would premiere sometime during this spring in Japan. In the following blog link, my prediction can be found:

Cartoon Sunday: Edgar Allan Poe's The Tell-Tale Heart [REVISITED]

Low and behold, my prediction was right! Anime News Network recently confirmed it.

Anime News Network: Tokyo Ghoul:re Casts Yu Kobayashi, Mamoru Miyano

Hopefully, the writing for Tokyo Ghoul:re will be closer to the Manga than the 2nd season of Tokyo Ghoul. When you read Tokyo Ghoul's Manga, if not the summaries about it, you will have a much better understanding of the Anime and its characters.

What You Didn't Already Know About Tokyo Ghoul's Characters

Since we're already on the topic of Horror Animation, I have another Horror Animated Short by David Romero. The last short I shared was on It's Not All Gumdrops & Unicorns.

Cartoon Sunday: David Romero's Pine Devil

In David Romero's Midnight Snack, a homeless man seeks shelter, during a blizzard. The man runs into what would appear to be an abandoned apartment building. On the outside as well as within, it looks like a dump.

Speaking of the homeless man in David Romero's Midnight Snack, the homeless man looks VERY similar to the hunter in Pine Devil. Anyway...

After seeking shelter, the homeless man's stomach starts growling. This leads to him scavenging around the apartment for the closest thing to eat. In his case, he rips something out of the wall, then fries it for dinner.

The homeless man has no idea what he just ate. He ate something, that once belonged to a woman. Now, she is furious and out for blood.

Song Saturday: The Afghan Whigs' Gentlemen

How's it going my gumdrops? Gumdrops is what I normally call my subscribers and readers on my website, It's Not All Gumdrops & Unicorns. Is that alright with you? Let me know! If you would like to read all the previous blogs I published on It's Not All Gumdrops & Unicorns, simply click on this blog listing.

Speaking of It's Not All Gumdrops & Unicorns, I published a blog yesterday letting all my gumdrops (readers and subscribers) know, that I will be experimenting with a re-branding on Blogger.

Experimenting With A Re-brand On Blogger

As of today, this will be Blog #1 on OMG, Anna! What's Going On?! Normally, I publish Song Saturday and Cartoon Sunday blogs every weekend on It's Not All Gumdrops & Unicorns. If you are interested in these types of blogs, that I publish and would love to know why I publish them, click on the following link:

Why Do I Publish Song Saturday + Cartoon Sunday Blogs?

If it is possible these next 2 weekends, 2 Song Saturday and 2 Cartoon Sunday blogs with creepy love and possibly disturbing themes will be published for Valentine's Day. All those, who know nothing about me should know, that I am a Horror and Thriller fan, as well as a Horror/Thriller writer. Therefore, you can expect to see CREEPY content being shared in these blogs.

Speaking of creepy, are you familiar with The Afghan Whigs? The Afghan Whigs is an Alternative Rock band, that launched during the late 1980's. They managed to gain some mainstream exposure, during the 1990's. By the early to mid-90's, Grunge Rock was at its pinnacle. I don't really consider them to be a Grunge Rock band.

After listening to some of The Afghan Whigs' older songs, they seem more like an Alternative Blues Rock kind of band. During the mid-90's, I always heard of The Afghan Whigs, when I was in my pre-teens or "'tweens."

However, it was not until last year, that I actually saw their music video on MTV Classic for their song, "Gentlemen." Watching the vocalist, Greg Dulli, in their music video instantly gave me creepy vibes.

In fact, Dulli gave me creepy stalker/voyeuristic vibes in "Gentlemen." He somewhat reminded me of Greg from my short story, The Bill Collector. Greg is a nerdy, red-headed, sales clerk at an electronics store, who is obsessed with the customer, Alice. Greg is so obsessed with Alice, that he pretends to be a bill collector by stalking her beyond harassing phone calls.

You may be wondering, "What does your short story, The Bill Collector, have anything to do with The Afghan Whigs' 'Gentlemen'"?

Watch their music video for yourself and see how creepy Greg Dulli looks in "Gentlemen." With that being said, here is The Afghan Whigs' "Gentlemen" for today's Song Saturday.
