Song Saturday: Tom Petty Tribute Block

How's it going lurkers? No, your eyes do not deceive you. Those are 2 legendary musicians (Prince and Tom Petty), who are now dead.

You are currently seeing a gif from the 2004 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, which was in tribute to George Harrison. Tom Petty, Dhani Harrison, Steve Winwood, Jeff Lynne, and Prince, performed "While My Guitar Gently Weeps."

At this risk of sounding "melodramatic," it makes my soul weep knowing that we have lost so many legendary vocalists between this year AND last year. It seems as if 2017 has turned out to be just as shitty as 2016, in general.

I know I'm not the only person, who wants this year to be over SOON. This is especially, when we turn on our TV's everyday and are forced to watch domestic terrorists attack innocent people at events. To make matters worse, having the media exploit tragedies and overshadow other news.

There are other catastrophes and tragic events for the media to report than spending an ENTIRE week replaying the same reels of homicidal maniacs.

The media fails to grasp, that THEY themselves keep inciting MORE division and copycat massacres because they constantly harp on the same recycled story, while sitting on other reports.

On Monday, we barely heard any reports about Tom Petty from Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers dying and other news. Reading someone's post on a forum about the legendary Heartland rocker's death was the only reason why I learned about it.

Once I learned that Tom Petty died, I was in shock. Shortly after, a news reporter on my local CBS reported that the LAPD retracted their statement on Twitter.

Supposedly, Tom was NOT  yet dead. He was "clinging for his life," according to the LAPD. Eventually, Tom Petty died of cardiac arrest, after being pronounced brain dead and taken off life support.

Before anyone attempts to comment on today's Song Saturday Tribute Block, refrain from posting, "I was never a fan of Tom Petty's music." Posting THAT  comment is like pissing on someone's grave.

Now, if you seriously dislike or hate that person, other people will instantly notice that you meant to be snide about his/her death, especially if a cheap shot is made in poor taste.

Regardless if the singer was your favorite or not, it sounds very disrespectful and rude to whoever it was that died. You have no idea how annoying it is to read, watch, and listen to somebody having the audacity to say, "I was never a fan of ___ music."

You may think I am acting bossy but there are people out there, who need to have a little more empathy and COUTH. Love or hate the icon, but that person had family, friends, fans, etc.

Tom Petty's music was a part of at least 4-5 GENERATIONS. With The Heartbreakers, Petty released 13 studio albums, 68 singles, and 9 video albums. He also released 3 solo albums, 5 guest singles, etc.

Tom Petty was a part of my childhood, during the 1980's and '90s. Now, he is another music icon to be added to the list of many other music icons, who are dead. This can especially be said about an icon, whose music videos were heavily played on MTV and VH-1.

I cannot help reiterating how depressed I become sometimes watching MTV Classic. Having to look back at all the dead music icons in music video blocks breaks my heart.

Music was a major part of my life growing up. Therefore, watching a bunch a dead music icons can be depressing. This is definitely a fact about life.

Eventually, all good things must come to an end. Anyway, in memory of the legendary Heartland rocker, here are 8 music videos by Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers for today's Song Saturday Tribute Block.

1) Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers "Refugee" Damn The Torpedoes (1980)

2) Stevie Nicks [Featuring Tom Petty] "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" Bella Donna (1981)

3) Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers "Make It Better" Southern Accents (1985)

4) Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers "Runnin' Down A Dream" Full Moon Fever (1989)

5) Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers "Mary Jane's Last Dance" Greatest Hits (1993)

6) Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers "Room At The Top" Echo (1999)

7) Prince, Tom Petty, Steve Winwood, Jeff Lynne, & Dhani Harrison "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" A Tribute To George Harrison (2004)

Early Song Saturday: Danzig Block

How's it going lurkers? Because we have to celebrate my mother's birthday on Sunday, I am sharing Song Saturday and Cartoon Sunday early. Her birthday was actually on April 26th.

Throughout April, there were so many events simultaneously happening, that my mother's birthday celebration was delayed. Not that she cares too much.

Aside from my mother's birthday celebration, let's return to the Rock. Yes, I know some of you have been waiting for this.

After browsing around this site, I realized that I only have 1 Song Saturday blog about Danzig. I was quite surprised.

Danzig was another band I used to play on my radio show, All Things Frightening, 14-15 years ago. I don't recall of ever playing "Mother" simply because it was the most OVER played song by Danzig.

At the time, I regularly played new songs from his I Luciferi album. Normally, I aired "Angel Blake" on WIPZ. Sometimes I played "Wicked Pussycat."

It is ridiculous that so many Rock stations never want to play other songs released by Danzig. It wouldn't surprise me if that was the main reason why Glenn Danzig would always be pissed off, during other interviews.

For years, the media ALWAYS depicted the man so horribly. Marilyn Manson is constantly condemned and demonized in the media too, but at least Rock stations still play more than 1 song by him.

Whether I am watching TV, listening to a radio station, or talking to someone on or offline, people and the media always frame Danzig as being this big, scary, angry Satanist.

Honestly, I feel the media launched a smear campaign against Glenn Danzig because he won't validate much less tolerate their bullshit and it threatens them.

There is so much we DON'T  know about Danzig, that someone would have to personally sit and interview him. However, I believe the media demonized him to the extent, that he automatically developed a scandalous reputation.

Some of you may recall that last May, I had the wonderful opportunity of interviewing White Zombie's former co-founder and bassist, Sean Yseult. It was quite an honor.

Too bad I never had the chance to interview Metal vocalists such as Type O Negative's Peter Steele and Glenn Danzig on my radio show. Despite what those critics say about Danzig, they will not give him a chance because they fear him.

I have watched this man in past interviews with some interviewers and he didn't try attacking any of them.

Here is an interview Glenn Danzig did with Loudwire. In this interview, he mentioned that he wanted to quit touring after 2015.

Loudwire: Glenn Danzig Plans To Quit Touring After 2015 With Superjoint (2015)

The preceding interview with Loudwire was uploaded on October 22, 2015. Then, on October 30, 2015, Rolling Stone uploaded an interview with Glenn Danzig. In that interview, he explained about movies that still scare him.

Rolling Stone: Glenn Danzig Talks About Movies That Scare Him (2015)

If I would've interviewed Glenn Danzig 15 years ago, I don't believe we would've ever had any problems. Our interview probably would've gone swimmingly well.

The fact that he is a Horror fan and has an appreciation for art as well as Japanese animation (Anime), we probably would've had a fun time together.

Speaking of Glenn Danzig and Anime, he has a GREAT  appreciation for the Mangaka, Kiyoshi Nagai. He is best known under the pen name, Go Nagai.

Also, Danzig aspired to be a comic book artist, when he was growing up. He was frustrated with American comics years ago and wanted to create "crazy, violent, erotic comics."

Glenn Danzig attended New York University Tisch School of the Arts and The New York Institute of Photography. By 1994, he launched Verotik, which is an adult-oriented comic book publisher.

As far as The Arts go, Glenn Danzig is very well educated and has a lot versatility. (It is amazing what you can learn, when conducting research!)

This Goth Metal vocalist is HIGHLY underrated for his talents and deserves a lot more praise than being famous for the song, "Mother."

In regards to Glenn Danzig's vocals, I had the hardest time figuring out, who he sounds like for the last 2 decades. Recently, it dawned on me.

Glenn Danzig sounds a LOT like the late Elvis Presley and The Doors frontman, Jim Morrison performing Goth Metal and Horror-Punk.

As a quick side note, music journalist, Simon Reynolds considers Jim Morrison's sound as being Goth Rock. I always considered Morrison's songs to be pretty Goth too, when you REALLY think about some of his lyrics.

Imagine Jim Morrison fronting Goth Rock and Horror-Punk bands. That's Glenn Danzig in a nutshell. In fact, he credits Morrison as being 1 of his early musical influences.

Today fellow Danzig fans are in for a treat. For this early Song Saturday blog, 7 songs by Danzig are featured, which are from 7 of his 11 albums.

Never have I ever played THAT MANY songs in a block by Danzig, when I was a Radio DJ at WIPZ.

This block of songs is especially beneficial for all those, who have NEVER heard any song(s) by Glenn Danzig except "Mother."

Before I forget, Danzig's new album, Black Laden Crown is set to release on May 26, 2017. Anyway, here is Danzig for today's early Song Saturday.

1) Danzig [Featuring Metallica's James Hetfield] "Possession" Danzig (1988)

2) Danzig "Her Black Wings" Danzig II: Lucifuge (1990)

3) Danzig "How The Gods Kill" Danzig III: How The Gods Kill (1992)
4) Danzig "Stalker Song" Danzig 4 (1994)
5) Danzig "Deep" Danzig 5: Blackacidevil (1996); The X-Files Soundtrack (1996)
6) Danzig "Angel Blake" Danzig 777: I Luciferi (2002)
7) Danzig "Devil On Hwy 9" Black Laden Crown (2017)

Song Saturday: Prince Tribute Block

How's it going lukers? Are you Princed out yet? It's amazing. "The Purple One" died 2-3 weeks ago and was cremated YET  the media is still talking about him. Without a doubt, we know there are at least some people already suffering from Prince fatigue.

Honestly, I would much rather hear and read more about Prince than this election any day of the week. If anything, everyone should be politically fatigued.

So, I meant to publish this Prince tribute blog ~3 weeks ago, but trying to schedule an interview with a famous Metal bassist, shopping for Mother's Day and birthday presents, celebrating birthdays, and handling cyberbullying on Adult Swim kept me completely swamped both on and offline.

Meanwhile, more news also continues to surface by the hours about Prince.

Since we are on the topic of Prince, we have learned that he did NOT die from the "flu." The Purple One died from a drug overdose.

Considering that he had to take Percocet for his hip injuries and underwent surgery, chances are great that the prescription caused the overdose.

Whenever I hear Percocet being mentioned on the news, I automatically think about Nirvana's Kurt Cobain. Eventually, I will update that 2-year-old Song Saturday blog, which I published about Nirvana. Cobain took Percocet for his stomach ailments.

When Kurt no longer had access to the prescription, he turned to heroin, which is much stronger than the prescription, Percocet.

Judging from what I continue to learn about the highly addictive prescription, Percocet, could possibly be the so-called "gateway drug" to heroin.

Here in WI ~2 months ago, I heard on our local news, that hospitals are trying to allow EMT's to give heroin addicts Narcan to counteract heroin overdoses.

Shortly before Kurt Cobain's supposed suicide, the doctors gave him Narcan in March 1994 because he overdosed on heroin. Weeks later, he was found dead.

Speaking of the Grunge band, Nirvana, Krist Novoselic and David Grohl considered Prince to be 1 of their musical influences. By my OWN observations about these 2 surviving members of Nirvana, I believe Dave Grohl enjoyed listening to Prince MORE than Krist and Kurt.

In fact, the Nirvana drummer now turned frontman for The Foo Fighters covered Prince's song, "Darling Nikki." The cover is featured on a B-Side album from 2003.

As I have mentioned at least several times in previously published blogs, "Darling Nikki" from Prince's Purple Rain album led to Tipper Gore launching the Parental Advisory (nicknamed "Tipper Stickers") labels on explicit albums in 1984.

Prince was actually the main contributor to censorship in entertainment, during 1984. Tipper Gore got "triggered" because she caught HER DAUGHTER, Karenna listening to Prince's "Darling Nikki." Don't you just LOVE masturbation?

BTW: May is Masturbation Month. HAPPY MASTURBATION MONTH!!!

Well, getting back on the topic of Prince, he made his mark in entertainment, throughout these last 3-4 decades in various music genres.

He released 30 studio albums, wrote songs for OTHER singers in Pop, Country, Rock, R&B, etc. under numerous pseudonyms, and wrote THOUSANDS of unreleased songs, which are said to possibly last an entire century.

There are many reasons why people hail The Purple One. Prince managed to surpass not only Elvis and Jimi Hendrix, but also Michael Jackson as a music icon. This speaks volumes.

Since the time of Prince's demise, I have read news articles, watched news programs, and famous musicians on social media performing tributes. I was very surprised to see Metal and Rock bands covering his most popular songs in tributes to him, when they were not posting their condolences.

Growing up, I wasn't a huge Prince fan, but like I creepily mentioned in my Vanity blog, I knew my uncle would be devastated if Prince were to die SOON. Oh yes, he idolized The Purple One and his androgynous ways.

My uncle may love Jimi Hendrix, but he ALWAYS worshiped Prince. In a way, Prince can be somewhat considered THE Jimi Hendrix for older Gen Xers.

As I watched ABC's 20/20 News special about Prince 3 weeks ago, my mother walked into my bedroom imitating me, when I was a little girl.

Watching her imitate me listening to "When Doves Cry" with my headphones on as a toddler was hilarious.

The more I think about it, it makes me realize that I haven't changed all that much as I became an adult. I still listen to music wearing my headphones. If only friends could see me, now.

Even though I am NOT  a Prince zealot like my uncle, I still enjoy listening to some of his songs. It would take me forever to mention facts about The Purple One but I will mention a few.

Here's some interesting trivia for you!

* Prince did the entire soundtrack for Tim Burton's Batman movie in 1989.

* If you WERE a fan of Buffy: The Vampire Slayer during the 1990's, you MAY remember the character, Jenny Calendar. The actress, Robia LaMorte was 1 of Prince's dancers in his music videos for "Get Off," "Cream," and "Strollin'."

This is the part where I let you watch some of my favorite Prince music videos from the 1980's and '90s for today's Song Saturday.

1) Prince And The Revolution "When Doves Cry" Purple Rain (1984)

2) Prince And The Revolution "Raspberry Beret" Around The World In A Day (1985)

3) Prince And The Revolution "Kiss" Parade (1986)

4) Prince [Featuring Sheila E. & Sheena Easton] "U Got The Look" Sign “☮” the Times (1987)

5) Prince "Batdance" Batman Soundtrack (1989)

6) Prince And The New Power Generation [Featuring Rosie Gaines, Eric Leeds, & Tony M.] "Get Off" Diamonds and Pearls (1991)

7) Prince And The New Power Generation [Featuring Rosie Gaines] "Cream" Diamonds and Pearls (1991)

REST IN PURPLE, PRINCE!!!

Song Saturday: Kanon Wakeshima's Tsukinami Block

How's it going lurkers? Nearly 2 years ago, I published a Song Saturday blog featuring Kanon Wakeshima.

Yesterday, I did quite a bit of web-surfing and YouTubing for Kanon Wakeshima's more recent music.

It was like an oral extraction trying to find songs from Kanon's latest album, Tsukinami.

I was amazed to see that there were not many official music videos or official songs streaming via YouTube for Tsukinami. In a way, I guess it's not too big of a deal.

When I was searching for Kanon Wakeshima's songs from her latest album, I felt disappointed. Most of the songs from her Tsukinami album I disliked. Tsukinami actually means "mediocrity" in Japanese. Naming her album, Mediocrity was an understatement.

Don't get me wrong. Kanon Wakeshima will always be a very talented singer/cellist. However, her latest songs sound like the stereotypical cutesy J-Pop Anime Music, which so cliche.

I was expecting for Kanon to say "nya," which is the noise cats make in Japanese rather than saying, "meow." It feels as if Kanon Wakeshima's music has been mutated into being overly commercialized J-Pop, that panders too much to Anime Otakus.

I miss the singer/cellist's Neoclassical Dark New Wave sound from her earlier albums. That's what attracted me to Kanon's music.

She was normally featured as a singer with her songs being used as the opening and ending theme songs to Anime and they were usually Horror Anime.

Hopefully Kanon Wakeshima will revert back to her darker sound, when she does her future albums. The cutesy, stereotypical, J-Pop Anime Music was NOT  her original sound.

Although, the Anime Otakus, Weeaboos, and Westernized creeps with the submissive, "Asian Girl Fetish" demographics will lap up her latest music like it's candy. Not to sound like a closed-minded feminazi, but it's the truth.

I would love to hear more future songs by Kanon Wakeshima, which are similar to her songs from her debut album, Shinshoku Dolce.

As of right now, I did manage to somewhat like a select few of Kanon's songs from her Tsukinami album. "Nightingale" is my favorite from that album.

Meanwhile, the other 3 songs that I chose for today's Song Saturday are songs I can tolerate from Tsukinami.

"Sakurameikyuu" was originally featured in the RPG video game based on the Shonen Action Romance Anime, Fate/Extra CCC in 2012.

Also, "Signal" was originally used as the ending theme song to the Supernatural Action Anime, Strike The Blood in 2014.

I tried my hardest to find official music videos for these songs by Kanon Wakeshima and only managed to find 1.

Like I already said, trying to find official songs and music videos from her Tsukinami album was the equivalent of performing an oral extraction. So, please bear with me for today's Song Saturday.

1) Kanon Wakeshima "Sakurameikyuu" Fate/Extra CCC (2012),Tsukinami (2015)

2) Kanon Wakeshima "Signal" Strike The Blood (2014), Tsukinami (2015)

3) Kanon Wakeshima "Nightingale" Tsukinami (2015)
4) Kanon Wakeshima "Monster Star" Tsukinami (2015)

Song Saturday: David Bowie Block

How's it going lurkers? I meant to publish another blog this week in regards to Motorhead's Lemmy Kilmister. Before this week could start, we suddenly learned that David Bowie died from Liver Cancer! Bowie died literally 2 days after his 69th birthday and his final album's release.

Throughout this week, we've heard tragic news about celebrities dying practically everyday. Then again, musicians have been dropping like flies, since early December 2015. It started with Scott Weiland. It's so bizarre.

Last month, I randomly got Stone Temple Pilots' song, "Atlanta" stuck in my head. I had not listened to their No. 4 album in years. Suddenly, I witnessed Scott Weiland's death "trending" on social media and on Adult Swim's forum.

Around the same time I learned about Weiland's death, I thought about him citing David Bowie as his influence. Towards the end of last month, we learned Motorhead's Lemmy Kilmister died 4 days after his own birthday! Lemmy's family and friends just had his funeral, last Saturday.

Then, David Bowie died of Liver Cancer 2 days after celebrating his 69th birthday and releasing his final album, Blackstar. We are only going into the 3rd week of 2016 YET celebrities have been dying almost everyday. Something tells me that 2016 will be a very grim year for many people, especially for celebrities.

Getting back on the topic of David Bowie, I was never a huge fan. However, I still enjoy listening to some of the songs that he released over the DECADES as well as many of his family, friends, and fans. "Lady Grinning Soul" and "Dead Man Walking" have been my favorites for years.

"Lazarus" is David Bowie's final music video. The music video seriously nails his last goodbye to all his family, friends, and fans. It also shows all the suffering he endured battling his last hours with Liver Cancer.

Bowie still appears to be extremely influential among many people, decades later. If people have NOT learned much of anything from this icon, they should learn to be more innovative, diversified, original, open-minded, fearless, and LEARN how to EXPLORE. We've got a LENGTHY  Song Saturday block for today.

1) David Bowie "The Man Who Sold The World" The Man Who Sold The World (1970)

2) David Bowie "Andy Warhol" Hunky Dory (1971)

3) David Bowie "Lady Grinning Soul" Aladdin Sane (1973)
4) David Bowie "Let's Dance" Let's Dance (1983)
5) David Bowie "Dead Man Walking" Earthling (1997), The Saint Soundtrack (1997)
6) David Bowie [Featuring Trent Reznor ] "I'm Afraid of Americans" Earthling (1997), The Best Of Bowie (2002)

Song Saturday: Alien Vampires Block

How's it going lurkers? Since the time of being a teenager, I have always been against censorship. That was years before hosting my own radio show.

Whenever I had the opportunity to occupy the Safe Harbor timeslot, I made use of it. I also aired albums completely uncensored, which was fantastic.

Speaking of music, it's that time of the week again; Today is Song Saturday. We revisit the Industrial-Electro group, Alien Vampires. Nearly 2 years ago, I shared 2 of their songs for Song Saturday.

Song Saturday: Alien Vampires [Double Dose] (2014)

During the time of Halloween, I shared some of Alien Vampires' music, when I created my own Adult Scare Music Playlist thread on Adult Swim's forum. Honestly, it was the funnest time I ever had since the time of joining Adult Swim.

I am still amazed that our head moderator ALLOWED me to share uncensored music from various music genres and sub-genres. It's not as if I was ever a favorite on Adult Swim.

Just so you know, I am sharing only 5 of Alien Vampires' songs for today. Most of their songs for today's blog are from their latest album, Drag You To Hell. Anyway, here is today's Song Saturday.

1) Alien Vampires "Rave To The Grave" No One Here Gets Out Alive (2007)

2) Alien Vampires "All The Fakes Must Die" Drag You To Hell (2015)
3) Alien Vampires "Sworn To The Lust" Drag You To Hell (2015)

4) Alien Vampires "Lock It" Drag You To Hell (2015)
5) Alien Vampires "You Rule, I Cum" Drag You To Hell (2015)

Song Saturday: Lemmy Kilmister Tribute Block

Airheads: "Trick Question" Scene (1994)

How's it going lurkers? Happy New Year! I hope you all are safe and warm for the beginning of 2016. Lately, it seems like more talented singers and musicians have been dropping like flies.

As you already know, Scott Weiland recently died last month on December 4, 2015. Then, Motorhead's Lemmy Kilmister died this past Monday on December 28th, when he JUST celebrated his birthday on December 24th (Christmas Eve)!

Within a matter of 24 hours or so, we have recently learned that Natalie Cole has died. She died at 65 from congestive heart failure. So many talented singers and musicians keep dying left and right.

As a fan, I am still grieving over the death of Scott Weiland. In a way, it feels a little strange for me because I have taken his death much harder than I ever expected; I'm taking his death much harder than Nirvana's Kurt Cobain and Alice In Chains' Layne Staley.

As I was saying earlier, Motorhead's vocalist, Lemmy Kilmister died on December 28th at the age of 70. I read earlier this week, that he just learned that he was dying from cancer within a matter of a few days. That's shocking as well as tragic. Nobody including Lemmy expected this to happen.

Throughout the DECADES, Lemmy Kilmister has collaborated with a variety of entertainers ranging from actors to iconic musicians. The preceding video is a scene from the 1994 movie, Airheads. I have owned Airheads on VHS and its soundtrack for over 20 years. It's amazing how time flies.

If you have never watched Airheads, I recommend checking it out. Lemmy Kilmister was featured in the movie as well as on the Airheads Soundtrack. As an entertainer, he had versatility, which cannot be said about most entertainers in music. This most definitely applies to Metal and entertainers in general.

There are iconic rappers like Missy Elliott for example, who are Motorhead fans. In her 2001 music video, "Get Ur Freak On," she was caught wearing a Motorhead T-shirt!

Earlier, I also forgot to mention that rapper, Ice-T collaborated with Lemmy for Motorhead's song, "Born To Raise Hell" on the Airheads Soundtrack..

In addition, Lemmy mentioned during an interview in 2008 on Stay Thirsty Media that he wanted to work with Janet Jackson at some point. I can only imagine WHY  the man would want to collaborate with her.

Janet Jackson is a talented Pop Music Icon and Lemmy Kilmister had a history of being a manwhore. Regardless, we still love that horny goat (Lemmy was a Capricorn) dead or alive.

Because it's Song Saturday, it's only fitting to have a block in tribute to Lemmy Kilmister.

We're talking about songs from Motorhead and Lemmy's music collaborations with Ice-T, Whitfield Crane, and Dave Grohl's (Nirvana/Foo Fighters) side project, Probot. Enjoy!

1) Motorhead "Ace Of Spades" Ace Of Spades (1980)

2) Motorhead "Under The Knife" The Chase Is Better Than The Catch: The Singles A's & B's (1984)

3) Motorhead [Featuring Ice-T & Whitfield Crane] "Born To Raise Hell" Airheads Soundtrack (1994)

4) Ugly Kid Joe [Featuring Motorhead's Lemmy Kilmister] "Little Red Man" Motel California (1996)

5) Doro [Featuring Motorhead's Lemmy Kilmister] "Love Me Forever" Calling The Wild (2000); Snaggletooth: A Tribute To Lemmy (2016)

6) Probot [Featuring Motorhead's Lemmy Kilmister] "Shake Your Blood" Probot (2004)

7) Motorhead "Thunder & Lightning" Bad Magic (2015)

Song Saturday: Scott Weiland Christmas Block

How's it going lurkers? Throughout the week, I meant to publish some other blogs but it's that time of the year when everyone's busy shopping for mostly Christmas gifts. That's along with our house FOREVER undergoing construction and scheduling doctor's appointments.

Throughout this past week, I have been so busy that I have been too tired to function properly. As if being sick the last 2 months wasn't miserable enough, I went from having allergies to another cold.

Aside from having a hectic week, I managed to listen to 1 of Scott Weiland's cover albums yesterday.

Last weekend, I mentioned that the late Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver lead singer released his own Christmas album. It's titled, The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year.

Since I have NOT  kept track of songs written and performed by Scott Weiland over this last decade, I had no idea that he released his own Christmas album in 2011, until he died more than 1 week ago.

I CANNOT help emphasizing how incredibly sad and disappointing it is to learn, that another talented musician died from substance abuse.

Out of the 3 dead Grunge vocalists (Nirvana's Kurt Cobain, Alice In Chains' Layne Staley, and Stone Temple Pilots' Scott Weiland), Scott Weiland was definitely the most talented Grunge vocalist, who died from hardcore drugs. Scott and Layne had more singing versatility than Kurt Cobain in regards to musical talent.

Like I said before to others, I don't discredit Kurt Cobain for having talent. Honestly, I believe that Kurt Cobain was extremely talented, when he illustrated his own art.

Have you ever seen any of Kurt Cobain's paintings? They were phenomenal!

However, Scott Weiland was a unique frontman. He had the ability to sing in more than 1 musical genre and sub-genre, which was highly underrated about the man.

While listening to Scott's Christmas cover album, I became really depressed. This was especially when listening to Scott Weiland cover the late Bing Crosby's "I'll Be Home For Christmas." As somebody said on YouTube, listening to him singing the song is a "sad, twisted irony."

Now that Scott Weiland is dead, he will NOT  be home for Christmas with his current wife and children. We as Scott's family, friends, bandmates, and fans wish that he would've went to drug rehab and stayed long enough to get clean for us all.

This is the 2nd Song Saturday in a row that features music from the late Scott Weiland. I just stumbled upon at least 3 music videos/live performances of him covering Christmas songs.

Scott Weiland's live performance of "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" debuted on Jay Leno, nearly 10 years ago. Out of the 3 songs for today's Song Saturday block, it is my favorite cover.

1) Scott Weiland "The Christmas Song" [Nat King Cole Cover] The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year (2011)

2) Scott Weiland "I'll Be Home For Christmas" [Bing Crosby Cover] The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year (2011)

3) Scott Weiland "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" [2006 Judy Garland LIVE Cover] The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year (2006)

Song Saturday: Arch Enemy Block

How's it going lurkers? So, last night, I browsed around and realized that I've NEVER published a Song Saturday blog for Arch Enemy! In the past, I've shared a few songs and music videos for Arch Enemy with both Angela Gossow and Alissa White-Gluz as the band's vocalists, but never an entire block. Well, better late than never, right?

Over the years, I sometimes thought about the fact that the Death Metal band was originally fronted by the Swedish frontman, Johan Liiva.

By 2000, Arch Enemy replaced Johan with Angela Gossow. She retired in March 2014.

Last March, Angela retired from the Death Metal band as their frontwoman and "handpicked" The Agonist's Canadian vocalist, Alissa White-Gluz, as her replacement. Angela Gossow is now Arch Enemy's manager.

It feels somewhat strange, now that Angela has taken the backseat. This German frontwoman had released 7 albums and 3 EP's with this predominantly male Swedish Death Metal band.

Now, Angela Gossow is the band's manager and Alissa is fronting Arch Enemy, years later. Whichever works I suppose.

Even though Arch Enemy has been through a total of 3 different vocalists from 3 different countries, I will always be more of a fan of Angela's. I cannot help being automatically biased.

Compared to Johan Liiva and Alissa White-Gluz, Angela Gossow has THE MOST  history and vocal experience with Arch Enemy. Angela also continues to play a major role with the band, considering that she is now their manager.

With that being said, I have chosen 8 songs from Arch Enemy. Half of these songs consist of Angela Gossow doing the vocals. Johan Liiva and Alissa White-Gluz are both acknowledged for today's Song Saturday, as well.

1) Arch Enemy [Vocalist Johan Liiva] "Diva Satanica" Stigmata (1998)

2) Arch Enemy [Vocalist Angela Gossow] "Enemy Within" Wages Of Sin (2001)
3) Arch Enemy [Vocalist Angela Gossow] "Dead Bury Their Dead" Wages Of Sin (2001)

4) Arch Enemy [Vocalist Angela Gossow] "I Am Legend/Out For Blood" Doomsday Machine (2005)

5) Arch Enemy [Vocalist Angela Gossow] "Skeleton Dance" Doomsday Machine (2005)

6) Arch Enemy [Vocalist Alissa White-Gluz] "You Will KNow My Name" War Eternal (2014)

7) Arch Enemy [Vocalist Alissa White-Gluz "As The Pages Burn" War Eternal (2014)

8) Arch Enemy [Vocalist Alissa White-Gluz] "Stolen Life" War Eternal (2014)

Song Saturday: Lords Of Acid Block

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY, LURKERS!!! Judging by the above banner and songs for today's Song Saturday, they may appear unpatriotic but I am ALWAYS patriotic.

I'm a daughter of a military brat, was born on Flag Day, and will break out red, white, and blue attire for every patriotic holiday.

More than anything, I am celebrating freedom of speech with uncensored music by the Belgian Acid House band, Lords Of Acid.

Hell, I was PRESIDENT  in both 8th and 11 grade for History and American Government classes. As an adult, I remain to be anti-censorship.

Yesterday I dreamt that I was hosting my own radio show again like I did in college.

Before, during, and after being forced to attend my 10-year high school reunion several years ago, I was frequently asked, "Does it pay well?"

When it comes to being a Radio DJ/Hostess, you are not guaranteed to be highly paid; You are NOT guaranteed to be making lots of money like Howard Stern or Rush Limbaugh.

I don't have an exact estimate regarding how much the average Radio DJ/Hostess makes. However, you must really enjoy doing the job. Club DJ's can make more money than a local Radio DJ/Hostess.

In 2002, I became a College Radio DJ/Hostess at UW-Parkside. At the time, it was only considered "voluntary work," even though we had to worry about FCC regulations and being fined 25 grand for having dead air and lack of censorship.

College students, who worked in the Food Services around Parkside's campus, made minimum wage whereas hosting a radio show 13 years ago was considered a "hobby."

Before my college sophomore year ended, every person involved with 101.7 WIPZ had to stand united by meeting with UW-Parkside's higher ups.

We really tried our hardest to persuade them into making our campus radio station go full power. We could have and should have been paid. Years ago, our shows were only heard locally in Kenosha, WI and online.

Since WIPZ had an online radio broadcast, our content had to be censored. This was unless our show aired during "Safe Harbor."

Safe Harbor began at 10pm and we as disk jockeys were allowed to air uncensored music. Sometimes I was lucky to host DJ Madness, which was during Safe Harbor.

During DJ Madness, I aired and sometimes premiered uncensored albums. Most of the time, I censored songs live, if there wasn't a pre-censored single for the explicit song.

If I ever became a DJ again, I definitely want to air more Lords of Acid.

Like I said earlier, Lords Of Acid is a Belgian Acid House group, which has been around since the late 1980's and early '90s. Their original name was "Digital Orgasm."

At UW-Parkside, we usually played "The Power Is Mine." Most of the group's music is almost impossible to air because of the raunchy lyrical content and drug references.

Lords Of Acid always had an underground cult following. People in their teens and 20's today mostly know about the group because "The Crabulouse" was featured in the teaser trailer for Sucker Punch whereas people my age and older knew about Lords Of Acid 15-20 or so years ago.

Rather than explaining more into detail about Lords Of Acid, I have a block of their songs from their uncensored albums Lust, Voodoo-U, and Our Little Secret.

Whenever Lords Of Acid released an album, they followed it up with "Stript" songs.

"Stript" songs were instrumental versions of songs from their previous albums, which did not require any censorship.

Anyway, here is Lords Of Acid for today's Song Saturday.

1) Lords Of Acid "Let's Get High" Lust (1991)

2) Lords Of Acid "Mr. Machoman" Voodoo-U (1994)

3) Lords Of Acid "Special Moments" Voodoo-U (1994)

4) Lords Of Acid "LSD=Truth" Our Little Secret (1997)
5) Lords Of Acid "[Concerto For] Me and Myself" Our Little Secret (1997)

6) Lords Of Acid "The Power Is Mine [Coda]" Our Little Secret (1997)

Song Saturday: Missy Elliott Block

How's it going lurkers? Today's Song Saturday block has been long overdue.

Last Sunday, Missy Elliott was a featured performer at the Super Bowl with Katy Perry. Because I am NOT  a Sports fan (unless it's Boxing, Martial Arts, and Mixed Martial Arts) and was shoveling snow, I didn't watch the Super Bowl.

Recently, I discovered that Missy Elliott released more new music. I didn't know that she released anything new within the last several years. Because MTV no longer airs music videos, throughout the day and night and because I no longer listen to traditional radio stations, I was unaware of Missy releasing a more recent album.

Surely, you're asking yourselves:

"What does Anna mean that she doesn't listen to radio stations anymore? I thought she was a DJ. If Anna doesn't listen to radio anymore, how does she know about the latest music?"

I quit hosting my radio show in 2003 and began limiting myself to traditional radio stations in 2004.

Besides having to endure 2 creeps stalking me and having racist apartment housemates, the overall entertainment industry started to become political. I was already coping with post 9/11 racism on/off campus, during The Bush Administration.

Being forced to listen to and watch entertainers, our Baby Boomer professors, and some college friends act self-righteous and patronize everyone with their political views was sickening.

2004 was when entertainment really became political. Because of those pseudo-intellectual political "activists," I stopped going to movie theaters, watching most cable networks, and I quit hosting my radio show.

During The Bush Administration, most people wouldn't shut the fuck up about their political views.

I never Majored or Minored in Political Science. I especially didn't become a Radio DJ/Hostess to listen to mostly hardcore drug addicts try to brainwash and oppress everyone about their political views.

It wouldn't have been so terrible, if those of said ilk were actually politicians. However, it suddenly felt like everyone became a "political activist."

While battling a severe bleeding disorder, I was relieved to be graduating from Carthage College in 2006.

In fact, after graduating, I grew more interested in international entertainment. That's another story for another time.

As I was saying earlier, I didn't know that Missy Elliott released any new music within these last several years. The last time I heard about Missy, she was battling Graves' Disease.

It's fantastic knowing that she released more music, during these more recent years. Missy debuted as a rapper, during my high school freshman year in '97 and I loved listening to her.

I always enjoyed watching Missy Elliott's music videos and listening to her songs because it felt like the old days, when rappers had fun and danced.

My college friends ONLY  liked listening to The Sugarhill Gang's "Rapper's Delight" and Sir Mix-A-Lot's "Baby Got Back." Otherwise, they hate Rap and Hip-Hop. Meanwhile, I have always been more cultured and open-minded about music, since I am a music lover.

Even though EBM, EDM, and Metal, including Industrial Metal are my favorite music genres and sub-genres, I still enjoy other music genres and sub-genres. Anyway, here's Missy Elliott for today's Song Saturday.

1) Missy Elliott [Featuring Da Brat] "Sock It 2 Me" Supa Dupa Fly (1997)

2) Missy Elliott [Featuring Nas, Lil' Mo, & Eve] "Hot Boyz" Da Real World (1999)

3) Missy Elliott [Featuring Director Dave Meyers, Master P, Lil' Romeo, Eve, Ja Rule, Timbalind, Busta Rhymes, LL Cool J, & Nicole Wray] "Get Ur Freak On" Miss E... So Addictive (2001)

4) Missy Elliott [Featuring Ludacris, Tweet, Trina, Ms. Jade, Eve, DMC, & Director Dave Meyers] "Gossip Folks"/"Funky Fresh Dressed" Under Construction (2002)

5) Missy Elliott [Featuring Director Dave Meyers, 106 & Park's Free, & Lil' Brianna] "Pass That Dutch"/"Wake Up" This Is Not A Test! (2003)

6) Missy Elliott [Featuring Ciara, Fatman Scoop, & Motley Crue's Tommy Lee] "Lose Control"/"On & On" The Cookbook (2005)
